Mahala Gough Badgett Gough Lewis was the daughter of Hezekiah Gough and Caroline Vinson.
She had at least on sister (Priscilla Gough b. Abt. 1867) and one brother (Albert Gough b. Abt. 1875)

She married (1) Luther Brice Badgett (son of Thomas W. Badgett and Mary Efline Sharp) on 11 September 1887 in Wirt County, West Virginia. He was born in July 1857 in Roane County, Virginia (now West Virginia) and died Bet. 26 June 1900 and 04 July 1902 in Reedy, Roane County, West, Virginia; burial unknown.

Mahala and L. B. had four sons:
a. Robert Badgett b. 13 July 1888 in Roane County, West Virginia d. 21 May 1913 in Wood County, West Virginia.

b. Orville Badgett b. 13 September 1890 in Spencer, Roane County, West Virginia d. 10 December 1977 in Akron, Summit County, Ohio. He is buried in Hillside Memorial Park, Akron, Summit County, Ohio.

c. Clarence Elmer Badgett b. 15 March 1895 in Spencer, Roane County, West Virginia d. 27 May 1990 in Marietta, Washington County, Ohio.

d. Floyd Lovell Badgett b. 30 June 1899 in Roane County, West Virginia d. 06 May 1972 in Parkersburg, Wood County, West Virginia. He is buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Parkersburg, Wood County, West Virginia.


Mahala married (2) Albert G. Gough (son Thomas Dragoo Gough and Alitha Catherine Flesher) on 06 February 1904 in Roane County, West Virginia. He was born 19 October 1838 in Lewis County, Virginia and died 25 September 1917 in Parkersburg, Wood County, West Virginia, burial Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Parkersburg, Wood County, West Virginia.
He was her first cousin, once removed. She was his second wife.

Mahala and Albert had one son:
a. Martin Carter Gough b. 21 August 1905 in Roane County, West Virginia d. 17 February 1944 in Logan County, West Virginia. He is buried in Mounts Cemetery, Mount Gay, Logan County, West Virginia.

Mahala married (3) George Albert Lewis (son of Norman Lewis and Allie Tennis/Travis) on 06 November 1919 in Wood County, West Virginia. He was born Abt. 1866 in Jackson County, West Virginia and died 27 December 1937 in Jackson County, West Virginia.

Mahala and George did not have any children.

Family rumor has that Mahala was Cherokee Indian but no evidence has been found to establish this as fact.

She was buried on 14 April 1924 according to her death certificate; however, the Mount Olivet Cemetery Association has her burial the same day has her death, 12 April 1924 in Single Section G, Lot 13, Grave number 12.
