Son of Orlando Theodore Avery (b.1849) and Mariette Louisa (Kibbe) Avery (1851-1907).

His paternal grandparents were Theodore Morrison Avery and Mary E (Goss) Avery.

By 1920, and probably by 1912, he is married to a second wife, Viola. She is listed as aged 30 in 1920. There is a Viola Elizabeth Avery in his household in 1910 as well, listed as a cousin, aged 20, So her maiden name appears to have been Avery as well. Everett did have a cousin Viola, who was a daughter of John Lawson Avery and Rosa (Spellman) Avery.

Children(by first marriage): Perley Wolcott Avery, Dorothy Etta Avery, May L Avery Munsell, and Hattie Avery.

Children(by second marriage): Evelyn L Avery, Everett Lawson Avery Jr, Verna Eloise Avery Pierson Daggett, and Jean Lillian Avery Heckler.
