US Congressman. A member of the Republican Party, he served the State of Ohio's 5th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives from 1959 until 1989. After attending Findley College, he received his law degree from Ohio Northern University, prior to serving with the United States Marine Corps Reserve during World War II. Following the war, he commenced practicing law in Bowling Green and initiated his career in the political arena, when he was elected to and served with the Ohio State Senate from 1953 to 1958. During his thirty-year tenure in Congress, he served on the Agricultural, Exports Controls, Judiciary and Budget and Rules Committees. During President Reagan's administration, Latta was supportive of the president's economic and domestic policies. His son Robert Latta went on to serve Ohio in the United States House of Representatives and held the same Congressional seat as his father.
