Film Producer. Born Witold Bardach, he produced many of director Roman Polanski's films including the 2002 film "The Pianist", which won several Oscars. He began his studies as a sculptor at the Institute of Fine Arts in Lwow, Poland, but in 1942 his entire family was killed by the Germans who had occupied the city. In the later years of the Second World War, he fled first to Warsaw, then to Latvia, and finally to Germany. In 1945, escaping from the advancing Soviet army, he joined the United States Army Counterintelligence Corps. After the war he married an employee of the United States State Department, Zillah Rhoades, and immigrated to the United States. After working as a fashion illustrator for a few years, he entered the film and television industry. In 1960 he moved to London and produced his first film "Station Six Sahara" two years later. In 1963, he joined forces with Roman Polanski and their partnership brought the films "Repulsion" (1965), "Cul-de-sac" (1966), and "The Fearless Vampire Kilers" (1967) to the "big screen". Their initial partnership ended in 1967 when Polanski moved to Hollywood. In 1970 he wrote the script for and produced "The Adventures of Gerard".
