US Congressman. During the War of 1812, he served as a Colonel on the staff of General Whiton. In 1821 he was elected as a Federalist to the Seventeenth Congress and to four succeeding Congresses, serving until 1831. Dwight was a multi-party activist and served as Adams-Clay Federalist, an Adams and as an Anti-Jacksonian. After leaving Congress he became a member of the Massachusetts State House of Representatives in 1834. As a private businessman he was interested in livestock and was one of the first importers of Merino sheep and Devonshire cattle.
