Mary M Ackles, 90, formerly of Burwell, died Wednesday February 19 at St. Joseph's Villa in David City.
Mrs. Ackles was born June 19, 1901, at Elba, NE to William and Louisa (Partsch) Struckman. She lived near Elba until her mother's death in 1910, when she and her family moved to a ranch 10 miles east of Burwell.
She moved with her family to Ogallala, NE, in 1917 and graduated from high school there in 1920. She taught in the elementary schools at Paxton, Keystone, and Burwell. In the summer of 1925 Mary went with her Dad to Germany for the summer to visit their relatives.
She married Floyd Ackles on June 9, 1926, at Ogallala. They lived in the Arcadia and Loup City areas until moving to a ranch near Burwell in 1941.
The couple retired in 1972 and moved to Burwell. They spent their winters in Texas. Floyd died on April 17, 1981. Mrs. Ackles remained at home before moving to the Parkview Plaza. She then moved to St. Joseph's Villa.
She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Willing Helpers Extension Club.
Survivors include two sons, Donald and Larry, both of Burwell; three daughters, Mary Lou Dolan of Salt Lake City, Utah; Shirley Peters of David City and Fae Beaumont of Broken Bow; 17 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one infant daughter, two grandchildren, four brothers and four sisters.
Funeral Services were held February 24, 1992 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Mike Petrie officiating. Music was provided by Betty Kovarik and Mike Peters.
