Isabel Behrens, 93, a lifelong resident of the Town of Porterfield, WI passed away on Monday, May 30, 2016, at the home of her son, Randy. She had resided there since the death of her husband, Emmerson, in January of 2012. She was born on December 9, 1922, at home, to Isaac and Lucinda {Moehr} Frechette.

After graduating from Marinette High School in 1940, she attended Marinette County Normal Teachers College for two years and received a teaching degree. Isabel taught at the local grade schools and also taught kindergarten for a year in DePere, Wis.

In 1947 she married Emmerson Behrens and spent the rest of her life raising her family on a farm.
A lifelong member of First United Church of Christ in Porterfield, until it closed in 1986, she loved the Lord and showed it in how she lived her life. She played the organ for services and served as president of the Women's Guild. In the summer there was always a fresh bouquet of flowers in the church that she had picked from her garden or the woods.

Her love of animals was evident. There was always a family dog, usually a stray that Isabel took in and loved. Many tears were shed when one of the many dog's or cat's lives ended. She loved nature and enjoyed many walks in the woods with her children, looking for blackberries. In her later years, Isabel enjoyed traveling with her husband, friends and family. They went to Europe and especially liked the polka fests in Germany and the scenery of Austria and Switzerland. There was a trip to Alaska with family and many trips to Texas to visit family. She also had fun going with her husband on short trips just to enjoy the scenery and go out to eat. Isabel is remembered for her innate goodness. All her time was spent caring not only for her children, but her grandchildren as well. There were many happy family get-togethers and friends were always welcome. She was always there for all of us.

She is survived by her six children: Diana (John) Wingers of Marinette, WI; Jeannie Peterson and friend, Steve Wixom of Madison, WI; David (Patti) Behrens of Marinette, WI; Roxie (Steve) Stillman of Maui, Hawaii; Maxine (Wayne) Cech of Goodman, Wis., and Randy Behrens of Porterfield, WI;
13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmerson; and a granddaughter, Shelly Stillman.

Friends may call at Hansen-Onion-Martell Funeral Home in Marinette on Thursday, June 2, 2016, from noon until the time of funeral services at 4 p.m. with Pastor Mike Bartz officiating. A dinner will follow at Calvary Church Assembly of God in Marinette. Burial will take place on Friday morning at the Harmony Cemetery.
