Stanley Duane Fenner, 84, faithful servant of the Lord, returned to his Father in Heaven on June 6, 2016. Stan was born on September 26, 1931, in Dayton, Ohio. He was the son of the late William C. and Ethel C. Fenner.
Just before his eighteenth birthday, Stan enlisted in the Marine Corps and served in the Korean Conflict, returning as one of "The Chosin Few" After a post at the American Embassy in Tokyo, he earned a dual degree in Economics and History from the University of New Mexico. He had a successful career as a programmer working on the forefront of computer technology and was also called to serve in the ministry, completing a Master of Divinity degree at Wesley Theological Seminary.
Throughout his life he served many communities around the country and abroad, spreading the Gospel and bringing joy and laughter to those who met him. He often went out of his way to help those in need. Most recently, he was a member of Greenwood United Methodist Church and enjoyed spending time at the Active Living Center in Winchester, Virginia.
Blessed with a curious mind and adventurous nature, Stan truly enjoyed life. He had a keen interest in science, fishing, Ohio State athletics, terrible puns, and Chinese buffets. He was a talented artist, avid reader, and even dabbled in farming, owning two angora goats and a pair of peacocks. He also loved dogs, from the tiny Tippy as a boy to Remington the Great Dane.
A loving husband, brother, dad and gramp, Stan is survived by his wife of 45 years, Linda; a sister, Beverly Nance of Maryland; two daughters, Suzanne Carman of Maryland and Angela Elias of Massachusetts; and four sons, Gordon Fenner of California, Randall Fenner of Florida, Geoffrey Fenner of Maryland and Nathan Fenner of Michigan. He is also survived by seven loving grandchildren: Alyssa, Lauren, Gage, Aidan, Lillian, Wesley, and Allison. Stan was preceded in death by his beloved parents and brother, Richard.
The family will receive friends on Monday, June 13, 2016, at Omps Funeral Home – Amherst Chapel from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon. A funeral service will be conducted on Monday, June 13, 2016, at 3:00 p.m. at Greenwood United Methodist Church, 726 Greenwood Road, Winchester, with Reverend Andy Brook officiating. Interment will be on June 14, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at Quantico National Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Road, Triangle Virginia. Military honors will be presented by the United States Marine Corps.
