Mary Barbara (Murphy) Hand of South Dennis, formerly of Newton and Billerica, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2015 at her home in South Dennis, at the age of 89.
She was the daughter of the late John and Mabel (Kidder) Murphy. Barbara was a loving wife, mother and doting grandmother. She was married to her husband James for fifty years until his death in 1996. She is survived by her children; Thomas Hand and his wife Laurie of Stratham, NH; Susan Potter of Woburn, MA; Janet Hawkins of South Dennis, MA.
In addition she is survived by her brother Richard Murphy and his wife Charlotte of Rancho Mirage, CA; her grandchildren, Jeremy Potter of Yreka, CA; Jamie Potter of Mt. Shasta, CA; James Hawkins of Yarmouth Port & South Dennis and two great grandchildren. She is also survived by her son in law David Hawkins of Yarmouth port and several nieces and nephews.
Barbara was born in Newton on January 13, 1926, the oldest of five children. She was preceded in death by her brothers John and Robert and her sister Carolyn. She was employed at Arkwright Boston Ins. Co. in Waltham, MA for many years until her retirement. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Jude Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
