She was the only daughter of General Richard U. and Mary Frances Sherman. Her father was Prominent in politics in Albany and Washington, DC, and a second brother, the late Richard U. Sherman, was twice mayor of Utica. Vice President Sherman was also mayor of Utica at one time and served in Congress for 20 years.
Her husband, the late Henry J. Cookinham, was a prominent lawyer in Utica for more than 50 years.
Four of the six children survive. They are Mrs. Cornelia H. Rice, Henry J. Cookinham, Jr., Richard S., Frederick H. and Walter S. Cookinham all of Utica. Thirteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive.
A son, Edward F., died in 1926.
