Adolph Frederick "Herky" Rupp, Jr., 75, passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2016.

He was born June 29, 1940, in Lexington, Fayette Co., KY His parents were: Adolph Frederick Rupp, Sr and Esther H Schmidt Rupp.

Best known by his nickname "Herky", he graduated from the University High School in Lexington, KY where he lettered in basketball and baseball. After graduation from University High School, he attended the University of Kentucky from 1958-1962, where he majored in history and political science. While attending UK, he played freshman and varsity basketball for his father. He was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity. Upon graduation, he began coaching high school basketball at Louisville Atherton. He also coached at Lafayette High School in Lexington and Shelby County High School. While coaching at Shelby County, he had two teams in the Sweet Sixteen and coached a Mr. Kentucky Basketball. After leaving the coaching profession, he spent the majority of his time in farming and the registered Simmental Cattle business.

He was a loving husband and devoted family man. He courageously fought his battle with cancer for ten years.

Herky was a charter member of Anchor Baptist Church, but in recent years had attended Centenary United Methodist Church with his family. He was a member of the K-Men Assn., Member UK Alumni Assn., Lexington Club, Simmental Assn., Board Member of the Commonwealth Athletic Club of KY, M. D. Anderson Fund Partner, former board member of the UK Basketball Museum and the Florence Crittenton Home, former Chair of the for Fayette County where he organized the first Bike-A-Thon fundraiser in Lexington.

Preceded in death by his parents: Adolph Frederick Rupp, Sr and Esther H Schmidt Rupp.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years: Linda Ethington Rupp; his son: Adolph Frederick "Chip" Rupp, III, and his wife, Cathy Rupp; his daughter: Farren Rupp Shrensker and her husband, Brian Shrensker; and his grandchildren: Adolph Frederick Rupp, IV, Elizabeth Alton Rupp, Anna Katherine Rupp, Henry Bennett Shrensker, William Aubrey Shrensker and Andrew Lawson Shrensker.

Visitation: 4:00-7:00 pm, Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at Milward-Broadway Funeral Home, Lexington, Fayette Co., KY

Funeral: 11:00 am, Thursday, June 30, 2016, at Centenary United Methodist Church.

Interment: Lexington Cemetery, Lexington, Fayette Co., KY
