5th President of Turkey. Born in Trabzon, Turkey, he graduated from Military Academy in Istanbut, and served a successful military career, becoming a four star general in 1959 and Chief of Staff in 1960. In 1966 he was appointed Senator, and on March 28, 1966, he was elected President of the Republic by Turkish Parliament. He served the constitutional term of seven years until March 28, 1973, and became then a permanent senator. He died in Istanbul, Turkey, in 1982.
