Walter Louis Yates Jr. was born October 17, 1928 in Columbus, Ohio to Walter Louis Sr and Olerbell (Thompson) Yates. At age 68, he passed on November 21, 1996 at the Chillicothe Veterans Hospital.

A retired employee of the Columbus Board of Education.

He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Chillicothe where he was a member of the Usher Board and sang with the Men's Chorus. Previously he was a long time member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Columbus.

Survived by his loving and devoted wife, Blanche Stone Howard; son, Michael Yates; step-children, Debra A. Barnett, Carl E. Hitchens, Deanna L. (Tico) Ward, Dorothy M. Hitchens; sisters, Caretta (Foster) Jennings, Rachael Stoner, Wanetta Covington, Margaret N. Cobb; grandchildren, Michael Yates Jr, Matthew Yates; great-granddaughter, McKenzie Yates; special cousin, Dorothy Howard; former wife, Margaret Yates; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
