STREATOR John J. Sankovich, 81, of 202 Fuller Ave., Streator, died at 6:32 p.m. Sunday (Feb. 6, 2000) at St. Mary's Hospital, Streator. His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Stephen's Church, Streator, with Monsignor Peter Bol-erasky officiating. Burial will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Streator, with full military rites by Streator Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492 and Streator Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with a rosary at 6 p.m., at Solon & Baker Funeral Home, Streator.
He was born June 11, 1918, at Filbert, Pa., a son of Anthony and Frances Tomas Sankovich. He married Mary Kozel on May 2, 1946, at Smock, Pa. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Peggy (Thomas) Nink, Streator; and Mary (Michael) Seery, Twin Peaks, Calif.; two sons, John (Beth) Sankovich, Peru; and Michael Sankovich, LaSalle; two sisters, Ann Garcy, Fair Chance, Pa.; and Joann (Albert) Sudoma, Streator; two brothers, Edward (June) Sankovich, Sarasota, N.Y.; and Thomas (Mary) Sankovich, Cleveland, Ohio; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Anthony Sankovich, Joseph Sankovich and Steven Sankovich; and a sister, Veronica Sankovich.
