Actress. Her best known acting role was that of "Lois Lane" in both the motion picture and television adaptations of the "Superman" franchise. The daughter of a newspaperman, her father was the editor of the Minneapolis Star Tribune and had hopes that she would follow in his footsteps and become a reporter. However, it would be during her high school years, when she was enamored with acting. She got her initial start in entertainment as a singer, when she was hired to be a regular vocalist at a racetrack in Del Mar, California and after meeting Bing Crosby, she was signed to a contract with Paramount Studios. Additionally, during this period she became a popular pin-up model. After several unremarkable minor parts, she found a role of substance playing 'Betty Rogers' in several films of the 'Freddie Trimball' series which starred Freddie Stewart. It would be her debut as 'Lois Lane' in the film "Superman" (1948), opposite Kirk Alyn which would make her a household name. In 1953, she replaced Phyllis Coates as 'Lois Lane' for the TV series "The Adventures of Superman," which starred George Reeves and remained in that role until the show's run ended in 1958. She retired from the industry after the series ended, but made occasional film appearances including "Superman Returns" (2006).
