Alfred was the son of Alfred Lawrence Sr. and Isabelle Anne (Thisson) Lewis. He married Teresa Louise Alexander in 1953 and they were the parents of five children: Michael, Susan, David, Linda and Paul.

North Stonington - Alfred L. Lewis Jr., 74, of North Stonington, a lifelong resident of this area, died Monday, March 29, 2004 at Westerly Hospital.
He was born Aug. 8, 1929 in Groton, the son of Alfred L. Sr. and Isabelle Anne Thisson Lewis.
He graduated from Stonington High School, and then attended the University of Connecticut.
He married Teresa Alexander at St. Michael Church, Pawcatuck on Jan. 24, 1953.
Alfred continued his schooling, training at Hartford Hospital and becoming a registered laboratory technician. He first worked at Uncas on the Thames Hospital as head technician then he joined the Westerly Medical Group on Beach Street, working there for the next thirty years. For a brief time he worked at General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton in its lab until illness forced him to retire.
Mr. Lewis was very active in his community, serving as a scoutmaster, and he was one of the founders of the North Stonington Little League, a member of the North Stonington Lions Club, the North Stonington Volunteer Fire Company and he was a founder and served as chairman of the original Recreation Commission.
Al was the first recipient of the "Great Heart Award" which recognizes community service in North Stonington. He was active for many years in politics, serving as a member of the Executive Board of the Democratic Town Committee. He was voted Second Selectman and he also ran for State Representative. He was a past president of the Portuguese Holy Ghost Society and was instrumental in helping to bring the club back from a devastating fire. He was a member of St. Mary Church Choir and he also directed and starred in many area variety shows years ago which he held to raise funds for good causes in area communities.
He faced his failing health of several years with humor and great patience. His family and friends will remember "Doc" for his sense of humor and kindness to all his patients and friends. His favorite past time was watching his beloved Yankees.
In addition to his wife of 51 years, he is survived by five children, Michael Lewis and wife Barbara of Shrewsbury, Mass., Susan White and husband David of North Stonington, David Lewis and wife Grace of North Stonington, Linda Breault and fiancé Rick Brown of Westerly, R.I., and Paul Lewis and girlfriend Becky Patton of Westerly; and 12 grandchildren, Alicia and Jesse Lewis, Christopher, Gregory, Marc and Amy-Rose White, Timmy, Shannon and Mallory Lewis and Bryan and Tyler O'Rourke and Jacob Breault. Al is also survived by his loving aunt; Alvida L. Garity of Stonington.
He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Anita Patricia Lewis Krauth and a brother, Donald Peter Lewis.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St, Mary Church, Stonington, on Friday, April 2, at 10 a.m. Following the Mass, burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Mystic Funeral Home, Route 1, Mystic.
The family respectfully suggests, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to the North Stonington Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 279, North Stonington, CT 06359 toward the purchase of future rescue equipment.
