Pete Pappas was born on the island of Skopelos, Greece. He was the son of John and Catherine Vlahostamatis. After serving in the Greek Navy for two years, he came to West Point, MS in 1927. He came to Tuscaloosa in the early 1930s and owned and operated restaurants until his retirement in 1973 from Pete's Steak House in Northport.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret P. Pappas; two daughters: Miss Catherine Pappas and Irene Beleos (George); two sisters: Mrs. Eleni Tsoukala and Mrs. Machi RafaelIdis, both of Skopelos, Greece; and a brother: Constantine Vlahostamatis, also of Skopelos, Greece.
