Olympic Games Gold Medalist Athlete. A forward, he was a member of the 1960 United States Olympic Hockey Team which captured a gold medal at Squaw Valley, California. Individually, he will be remembered for scoring the winning goal against the Canadian hockey team during the semifinal game of the Olympics. Born Paul Herbert Johnson, he played hockey throughout, and although he never played at the collegiate level, he earned a spot on the 1958 United States national hockey team. Johnson was known for explosive bursts of speed and scoring capability during his years with the junior team, Rochester Mustangs (Minnesota), prior to his Olympic experience. He went on to become the proprietor of a tavern. He was inducted into the US Hockey Hall of Fame in 2001.
