Artist. One of America's best known engravers of the 19th Century. His subjects included portraits of Ralph Waldo Emerson, Walt Whitman, and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. He was also employed as a bank note engraver. His prints are housed at the Smithsonian Institution, the Library of Congress, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, and the New York Public Library.
