Hall of Fame College Football. He was coach for The Ole Miss Rebels (University of Mississippi) from 1946-1970 and again in 1973 to finish out the season for Coach Billy Kinard. He became the all-time leader in wins for a head football coach in Univ. of Mississippi history with a record of 190 wins, 61 losses, and 12 ties; a record that still stands as of 2006. Coach Vaught won six Southeastern Conference Championships from 1947-70. He was selected SEC Coach of the Year six times by the Associated Press, twice by United Press International, and twice by the SEC Coaches. In 1976, Vaught was inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame, and 1979, the National College Football Hall of Fame. He was chosen by Ole Miss fans as the "Coach of the Century" in 1993 when the University of Mississippi celebrated the school's first 100 years of football.
