Alice Washington Carlton, 83, a resident of Harrison, Arkansas, died Monday (May 19, 1997) at Hillcrest Home. She was born May 15, 1914, the daughter of Howell and Margaret Lane Washington. Former residences include Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, Caracas, Venezuela, Minneapolis, Maryland, Panama Canal Zone, Baltimore, Maryland, Harlingen, Beaumont, and Houston, Texas, Huntsville, Alabama, and Fayetteville, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Joy Dunkley Laposki. Survivors include her husband, Col. (U. S. Army, Retired) William Blake Carlton, Jr.; a brother, John William Washington of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; two daughters, Lane Zaropek of Dallas, Texas, and Cindy Lannon of Harrison; granddaughter, Margaret Dunkley Henry of Dallas; grandsons, Jay Lennon of Conway, Arkansas, and Blake Lennon of Harrison; and twin great-granddaughters of Dallas. Memorial services were held Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Murfreesboro with the Rev. David Garth and Pastor Buddy Peake officiating. Burial of cremains will be at a later date at Ft. Sill National Cemetery in Lawton, Oklahoma. Christeson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
