Samuel Lederer died 29 August 1925 while visiting Luzern, Switzerland, with his wife, Caroline. She arranged for his remains to be shipped to the United States and then returned home alone. Samuel's other surviving relatives included his daughter, Mrs. Allen Keefer; two brothers, Adolph Lederer and Rudolph Lederer; and five sisters—Mrs. Sam Freud, Mrs. Charles Weiss, Mrs. Sam Hochfelder, Mrs. Berthold Weis, and Mrs. Dave Knapp. Services were held on Tuesday, 29 September 1925, at Chicago's Temple Sholom (Pine Grove and Grace). Interment followed at Rosehill Cemetery.

Notes: Samuel and Caroline's only child, identified in his obituary as "Mrs. Allen Keefer," was born Evelyn Jeanette Lederer, 30 October 1906, at Chicago, Illinois. When she became an actress, she adopted the stage name, "Sue Carol." When her mother died in 1941, the /Chicago Daily Tribune/ announced that the mother of "Sue Carol" had died.
