Elias Staudt, an esteemed citizen of South Bernville, aged 58 years, was sitting in his bar room yesterday morning repairing a lock, when he fell backward and expired almost instantly. Dr. J. A. Brobst was called, and stated that Mr. Staudt died from heart disease and dropsy, from which he had suffered for some years, although of late he seemed in good health.
Mr. Staudt was an enterprising man, and was at one time Superintendent of the Union Canal, and latterly a director of the Windsor Fire Insurance Company and also a director of the South Mountain Railroad Copany. He leaves a wife and six children.
