Major League Baseball Player. Nicknamed "Rocky" for his ability to talk, he played nine seasons in the Major Leagues while playing for 5 teams. A backup defensive 1st baseman who could also play outfield when needed, he appeared in 620 games, batting .249 with 173 runs batted in. While playing in the minors in the mid 1950s he became a three-time International League MVP in 1953 and 1955 with the Montreal Royals and in 1958 for the Toronto Maple Leafs. The highlight of his Major League career came while a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates when he hit a home run in the first inning of Game 7 of the 1960 World Series against the Yankees, a game the Pirates would win in the bottom of the 9th inning on Bill Mazeroski's home run. He was later elected to the International League, the Ohio Baseball and the Canadian Baseball Halls of Fame.
