John S. (Jack) Barre, 59, of 185 Bench Avenue, Washington, died at 8:56 p.m. Saturday, December 3, 1983, in Washington Hospital following a lingering illness.
He was born January 5, 1924, in Uniontown, a son of John S. and Alethia Spalding Barre.
Before retiring in 1979, he was a ceramics engineer for the O. H. Hummel Co.
Mr. Barre was a member of the Fourth United Presbyterian Church, BPOE No. 776, Washington Lodge No. 164 F&AM, and Ernest Phillips American Legion Post 485.
He was a 1943 graduate of Brownsville High School and served with the U. S. Marine Corps during World War II in Okinawa and the Chinese Occupation.
On May 23, 1943, he married Jean Craig, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, a daughter, and three grandchildren.
A sister, Alia McClay, is deceased.
