Professional Basketball Player. For six seasons (1980 to 1984 and 1986 to 1988), he played at the small forward position in the National Basketball Association with the San Diego Clippers, Indiana Pacers and Denver Nuggets. Born Michael Anthony Brooks, he made his initial mark on the basketball court towards the later part of his years at West Catholic High School in Philadelphia. He played collegiate basketball at La Salle University and while with the Explorers, he led them to two NCAA Tournament berths (1978 and 1980), while earning All-American honors. He received "Big 5" MVP recognition in 1978 and 1980 and earned the National Association of Basketball Coaches Player of the Year honors in 1980. Selected by San Diego as the ninth overall pick during the 1980 NBA Draft, he totaled 319 career regular season games. Brooks distinguished himself, as he topped the 1,000 point mark three consecutive seasons (1980 to 1983), which included his career-high 1,276 points during the 1981-1982 season. In addition to his NBA career, he played professionally in the United States Basketball League and in Europe. He was inducted into the La Salle University Athletics Hall of Fame in 1985. He died of complications from a massive stroke.
