James Pearse was the father of Patrick and William Pearse, two of the leaders of the 1916 Easter Rising.
He had descendants from two of the children of his first marriage, to Susan Fox.
He had no descendants from the four children of his second marriage, to Margaret Brady.


Son of James Pearse and Mary Anne Thompson.
He was a Monumental Stone Mason

The marriage of James Pearse and Susan Emily Fox was registered in Birmingham in the quarter ended June 1863.
They were the parents of
Mary Emily, 31 Dec. 1864 - 1944,
James, 3 Apr. 1866 - 1910,
Agnes Maud, 30 Nov. 1869 -
Amy Kathleen, 18 June 1871 -


James Pearse of 5 Parnell Place, son of James Pearse and Mary Anne Thompson of Birmingham, married Margaret Brady of 7 Aldborough Avenue, daughter of Patrick Brady and Bridget Savage of Aldborough Place, on 24th October 1877, at St. Agatha's Church, North William Street [off North Strand Road] Dublin.
The witnesses were,
John McGloughlin of 5 Parnell Place,
and
Catherine Brady, of 160 Great Brunswick Street.

In later years the family moved to Sandymount.

His business premises were at 27 Great Brunswick Street [now Pearse Street] Dublin.

Despite being a monumental sculptor, James Pearse did not put up a headstone on the grave of his first wife Susannah, or two of their children who died young.
