Son of Mr. & Mrs. Henry Horak who resided in Petersburg, Virginia.

William served as a Machinist's Mate First Class, U.S.S. Denver (CL-58), U.S. Navy during World War II.

He resided in Petersburg, Virginia prior to the war.

William enlisted in the Navy on May 8, 1939.

The U.S.S. Denver, during a heavy air attack off Cape Torokina, Solomon Islands, was hit by an aerial torpedo which knocked out all power and communications and killed 20 of her men.

William was "Killed In Action" during this attack.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was originally interred in Guadalcanal and was later repatriated here in 1948.
