MOUNT AIRY, NC ~ Mrs. Betty Mae Bowman Nester, 84, of Mount Airy passed away Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011, at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
Mrs. Nester was born in Surry County on July 11, 1927 to the late Omar and Artha Bobbitt Bowman.
She was an office manager for J.C. Penney and retired after 40 years of service and also hosted at the Carriage House Restaurant.
Mrs. Nester enjoyed giving her time to be a volunteer for Northern Hospital of Surry County and attended Grace Moravian Church.
Mrs. Nester is survived by her son, Jim (Sue) Nester of Oliver Springs, Tenn.; four grandchildren: Jeannie Williams, Rudy Nester, Andrea Nester and Tammie Pyke; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, O.L. (Doris) Bowman of Mount Airy.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Nester was preceded in death by her husband, James Ralph Nester.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011, at 7:30 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy by the Rev. Tony Hayworth. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6 until the time of the service. Burial will be at Skyline Memory Gardens Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011, at 10 a.m.
