Frances A. Newby, 89, of Caspian, MI passed away on Monday, February 1, 2016 at U.P. Health System Marquette with her family at her side. She was born July 17, 1926 in Detroit, MI, daughter of the late Anthony and Maletta (Spooner) Rumpa.

Frances graduated from high school in the Detroit area. She married her love, Hyme Donofsky, and they relocated to the upper peninsula. Hyme preceded her in death in 1964.

Frances then married John E. Newby in Iron River. He preceded her in death in 2002.

She owned and operated the Shoe Bazaar, a shoe store in Iron Mountain, from 1947 to 1966. Frances enjoyed gardening, feeding and watching the birds, animals, and especially enjoyed the Christmas season. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the light of her life.

Frances is survived by two children: Charles (Diane) Newby and Hydee (Ed) Benson, both of Iron River, MI; seven grandchildren: Amanda (Josh) Coggins, Brent (Alyx) Benson, Chelsea Benson, & Nathan, James, Adam, and Aren Newby; numerous great-grandchildren;
a brother,Paul Rumpa (Katie);
step-children, Sheri Starr, Jeff Newby, Steven (Jane) Newby, Stacy (David) Donati & Grant Newby; several nieces and nephews and her constant companion, her dog, Lily.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Rumpa and two sisters: Doris DePollo and Joan Baxter.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 1, 2016 from 9:00 to 11:00am at the Nash Funeral Home in Crystal Falls. A memorial service will follow at 11:00am at the funeral home. Fr. Gregory Veneklase will officiate.
