(1922 - 2012)

Edwin B. Schweitzer, age 90, a longtime Valders resident, most recently a resident of River Wood Estates, Manitowoc, died peacefully Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at River Wood Estates.

Ed was born on January 4, 1922 , son of the late Fred and Anna (Strasser) Schweitzer in Antigo. He graduated from Antigo High School with the class of 1939. Ed served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a Technician. He graduated from UW River Falls in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture Education. On June 6, 1954, Ed married the former Colleen Schroeder at St. John's in Antigo. Ed was employed as an independent Insurance Salesman. Ed was also employed with the Manitowoc Social Services, and as an Agriculture Teacher. He was an active member of: Holy Name Society of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clarks Mills, Manitowoc County Board from 1982-1992, Valders Community Chest and Valders Improvement Corporation. He enjoyed attending his children's and grandchildren's athletic events, as well as Valders High School sports. Ed was also a life-long Packer fan and Wisconsin Badger fan. He enjoyed sharing his garden produce, especially tomatoes, with his friends and neighbors.

Survivors include his wife: Colleen, Manitowoc; one daughter and a son-in-law: Karen Schweitzer-Olson and Steve Olson, Manitowoc; three sons and three daughters-in-law: Bill and Mary Schweitzer, Amherst; Jeff and Sue Schweitzer, Columbus, WI; Scott and Lisa Schweitzer, Manitowoc. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Michael (Darcia) Schweitzer, Columbus, WI; Melissa (Cory) Jennerjohn, Waunakee; Jason Schweitzer, Columbus, WI; and Kelsey Schweitzer, Milwaukee; and one great-grandson: Carson Jennerjohn, Waunakee. Additional survivors include: one brother: George Schweitzer, Antigo; three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law: John and Jackie Schroeder, Antigo, Tom Schroeder, Birnamwood and Al and Janice Jesse, Neenah. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

Ed was also preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law: Phil and Marge Schweitzer and two sisters-in-law: Mary Schweitzer and Caroline Schroeder.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, March 12, 2012, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clarks Mills. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Richard Klingeisen. Military rites will be accorded by the VFW Otto Oas Post 659. Entombment will be at Calvary Chapel Mausoleum.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Monday, March 12, 2012, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clarks Mills.

In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to VASA (Valders Area Sports Association) or the donor's choice.
