Mrs. Mary S. Akin
Mrs. Mary Sanford Akin age 92, died this morning at 3 o'clock at her home, 10 Brandt Place, after a few days illness.
Mrs. Akin was born in Amsterdam, December 7, 1855, a daughter of David and Caroline Pearl Sanford, and always resided in this city. She was a niece of the late Stephen Sanford. She was a member of St. Ann's Episcopal Church, as well as of the Ladies' Aid Society and Woman's Auxiliary of that church, and also belonged to the Century Club, Amsterdam Chapter, D. A. R., and James T. Bergen Post Auxiliary, 39, American Legion, of which she was a Gold Star mother. Although advancing years had caused her to curtail her activities, Mrs. Akin never relaxed her interest in local happenings and kept well informed on current affairs, being throughout her life a staunch supporter of the Republican party. Her gentleness and kindness endeared her to all who knew her and her friendship was warmly cherished.
Mrs. Mario Pansa, Mrs. Sidney Legendre, Stephen Sanford and Mrs. Harry Clarke, second cousins of Mrs. Akin, are the only survivors.
