The wife of Charles Lester Elkins, son of Charles McKinley Elkins and Martha (Lovejoy) Elkins, Madeline fulfilled a nursing function at Logan General Hospital during World War II and went on to become a homemaker and mother of one daughter and two sons. Later, she became the grandmother of one grandson.
Like her ancestors, she enjoyed and was a natural at growing things. For her, it was African violets and window-box flowers that announced summer's arrival in West Virginia. She also was adept at hand-making flowers for Decoration (Memorial) Day.
Madeline was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and husband.
