Dale Markel Pitts

LA CROSSE/McHENRY, Ill. — Dale Markel Pitts, 82, of La Crosse and formerly of McHenry, while in peaceful sleep, our Lord came for Dale on Sunday, Oct. 15, 2006, at Lakeview Health Center in West Salem, Wis.

He was born May 13, 1924, in Kenosha, Wis., the third son of Arthur and Pearl (LaVigne) Pitts. After the death of his mother in 1929, the family returned to their hometown of Eau Claire, Wis. Dale graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1941. He served with the Army Air Force, from 1943 to 1946 during World War II in Burma, India. Dale worked in the trade of tool and die as a machinist for 20 years. He then spent the remaining 35 years of his working career as a life insurance agent for Time Life Insurance and also owned and operated Pitts Ins. Agency Company.

Dale joined the Masonic Order of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, McHenry Lodge 158 on March 21, 1972, and served as worshipful master from 1976 until 1977. In 1972, he became a 32nd degree Mason. In May 1973, he was constituted a Noble of The Mystic Shrine in Tebala Temple of Rockford, Ill., and also became a member of McHenry County Shrine Mini-Bikes Zamindar Club of Richmond, Ill. He received numerous awards for his work in the Masons and the Shriner's Hospital. Dale was also made an honorary VietNow, McHenry County Chapter, in 1977 for taking part in bringing the traveling Wall to McHenry. Dale was an active life member of VFW Post 4600 of McHenry, Ill., from 1964 until 2003 when he moved to La Crosse and transferred

his membership to Thomas Rooney VFW Post 1530.

Dale is survived by his wife of 43 years, Esta Pitts of Winona, Minn.; three children, Dale (Jan Hobbs) Pitts of Maple Grove, Minn., Charles (Phyllis) Pitts of Trempealeau, Wis., and Deborah (Mark) Riniker of La Crosse; two stepchildren, Mike (Marilyn) Meeker of Winona, Minn. and Jim (Joan) Meeker of Saxon, Wis.; four grandchildren, Steven, Scott, Tracy and Erica; 11 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Charles Pitts of Cameron, Wis. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Dana and Robert Pitts; grandson, Herman "Rocky" Espinoza; and a brother, Arthur Pitts.

Private family services will be today, Oct, 18, at Woodruff-Jandt Funeral Home, La Crosse, with burial and full military honors at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on Friday.

Dale's family will miss him greatly but we have the promise of the Lord's word in Revelation 21:4: "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."
