DR. AND MRS. O'NEAL MARK GOLDEN WEDDING

Dr. and Ms. Walter H. O'Neal quietly observed the fiftieth anniversary of their wedding at their home on Baltimore street today. Both Doctor and Mrs. O'Neal are in fairly good health, and both are able to be about.

the marriage of Doctor O'Neal and Miss Martha Anne Hay, a daughter of Colonel and Mrs. Alexandria Hay, Philadelphia, took place at the home of the bride's parents on April 23, 1878. there were no attendants at the ceremony which was performed by the bride's pastor, an Episcopalian minister.

After the wedding, the bride and bridegroom, both of whom were 24 years old, took a trip through the south, with Richmond, Virginia, as their destination. The trip south was made by rail, the couple returning by boat.

Upon their return, Doctor and Mrs. O'Neal came to Gettysburg, but during the same summer they moved to Wilkes-Barre where Doctor O'Neal practiced for six years. Returning to Gettysburg in 1884, Doctor O'Neal practiced medicine here until 1914 when re retired.

Doctor O'Neal was a son of Dr. and Mrs. J.W.C. O'Neal, and was a native of Baltimore. The family moved here in 1862 and young Walter O'Neal attended Gettysburg college before entering the University of Maryland in Baltimore, where he took his medical course.

The bride's father received his commission as colonel while serving in the Pennsylvania militia, attached to the governor's staff.

Doctor and Mrs. O'Neal have one son, Dr. Alexander Hay O'Neal, now practicing at St. David's, near Philadelphia.

DR. WALTER H. O'NEAL DIES OF HEART DISEASE THURSDAY NIGHT; 79
Retired Physician and Former President Of Gettysburg Water And Power Had Been In Failing Health For Several Months; Leaves Widow, Son And Four Sisters.

Dr. Walter H. O'Neal, 79, retired physician and former president of the Gettysburg Water company, died at his home on Baltimore street, at 11 o'clock, Thursday evening, Death was attributed to heart disease from which he had suffered for a number of months.

Mrs. O'Neal, who has been ill for sometime, is reported to be bearing up as well as can expected under the circumstances.

Dr. O'Neal, who practiced medicine here from 1884 to 1911, when he retired, was one of the best known and best liked practitioners in Gettysburg. he was known as a friend of everyone, and always stood ready to help the less fortunate in times of sickness.

He was a son of the late Dr. J.W.C. O'Neal, of Maryland, and Ellen (Wirt) O'Neal, of Hanover. The deceased was born in Baltimore where his father then practiced.

During the Civil war, the O'Neal family moved to Gettysburg, the father to practice his profession and the son to attend Gettysburg college, where he took a pre-medical course. From college, Doctor O'Neal entered the University of Maryland from which he graduated.

MARRIED IN 1878

Doctor O'Neal was married to Miss Martha Anne Hay, a daughter of Col. and Mrs. Alexander Hay, Phildaelphia, at the home of the bride's parents on April 23, 1878. Last year, the couple quietly celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage.

Following his marriage, Doctor and Mrs. O'Neal moved to Wilkes-Barre, where the young physician practiced medicine for six years, returning to Gettysburg in 1881. He soon built a large practice, which he held for many years.

The O'Neal family here was for many years the heaviest stockholders in the Gettysburg Water company, and Dr. O'Neal was a director in the company for a number of years before he elected president, May 1, 1905, a position he held until the company was sold in 1927. He succeeded as president the late Jeremiah W. Diehl, father of Mrs. C.C. Bream, East Middle street.

Doctor O'Neal was a member of Gettysburg lodge 1045, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.

SON IS PHYSICIAN

He is survived by his widow, one son, Dr. Alexander Hay O'Neal, a practicing physician at St. David's near Philadelphia; two grandchildren and four sisters, Mrs. John Crapster, Taneytown; Mrs. John T. Huddle, Washington, D.C., and Misses Kate and Annie O'Neal, Carlisle street.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

DR.O'NEAL TO BE BURIED AT 10 ON MONDAY

Funeral Services for Dr. Walter H. O'Neal, retired physician and former president of the Gettysburg Water company, who died late Thursday evening, at his home on Baltimore street, will be held Monday morning at 10 o'clock at the home on Baltimore street, the Rev. N.L. Horn, pastor of Trinity church, officiating. Internment in Evergreen cemetery.

In as much as Dr. O'Neal was the oldest member of Gettysburg lodge, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Harry E. Bumbaugh, exalt ruler, today announced that the lodge will pay tribute to the deceased member by attending the funeral in a body. The Elks will meet at the lodge rooms at 9:30 o'clock, Monday morning.

Doctor O'Neal also was a member of Good Samaritan lodge (?), Free and Accepted Mason (?).
