Joan attended Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. After moving back to Houston, she met, fell in love with, and on January 9, 1948, married David Doyle Brown. In 1956 the young family moved to Corpus Christi and made South Bluff United Methodist Church their spiritual home where Joan was very active, and later making the move to First United Methodist Church which further extended her faith family.
She was retired from the Corpus Christi Independent School District where she worked for many years as a para-professional in the Ray High School and King High School libraries. She was a community volunteer and a 50-year active member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
Joan is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, David Doyle Brown, who she dearly missed and with whom she is now reunited in God's loving arms. She is also preceded in death by her parents and her six loving siblings, Dave, Bud, Bid, Jane, Judy and Jerry.
Her passion was her family. Joan is survived by her son, David Doyle Brown, Jr. and wife Barbara, her daughter, Kathy Briscoe and husband Robert, all of Corpus Christi, Texas and her daughter Martha Lewis and husband Darryl of Houston, Texas. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Cindy Brown, Brian Brown and wife Ruth, Ryan Jones and wife Genise, Jacob and Alex Lewis and her great grandchildren: Genna and Caitlin Jones, all of whom brought great pleasure and love into her life.
Finally, Joan leaves behind many special friends and neighbors who shared the brightness of her sun when it shone, and helped to part the clouds when it didn't.
