Aldm. for the Coroner
June 7 / 47

Run Over, with Fatal Result.—On Sunday evening, after the fire, near the corner of Fifth and Brown streets, a young man, by the name of William Gaun, about sixteen years of age, who resided with his mother, in Front street, above Poplar, was run over and mortally hurt, in Brown street, below Third. The statement given of the melancholy affair, shows that he was running with the Good Intent Engine, which company, with that of the Kensington Engine, were racing down the street, in consequence of which three or four individuals were knocked down—all of them escaped serious injury except him. The wheels of the Good Intent Engine passed over his breast, causing, as we have understood, an effusion of blood on the chest, which terminated in death in less than two hours after the accident. An inquest was held upon the body yesterday by an Alderman for the Coroner, who was absent from the city, and a verdict rendered in accordance with the facts.
—Public Ledger (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania), Tuesday, June 8, 1847, p. 2.

Died,
Suddenly, on the 6th inst., in the 17th year of his age, WILLIAM, son of Margaret Gaun.
Thus death has called another hence,
A bud ere it had bloom'd.
His friends and relatives are respectfully invited to attend his funeral, from his mother's residence, No. 440 North Front street, above Poplar, this (Wednesday) afternoon, at 3 o'clock, without further notice.
—Public Ledger (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania), Wednesday, June 9, 1847, p. 2.
