Alcide W. “Pete” Valind, 86, of Marinette, WI passed away quietly at home on Saturday, September 17th, 2016. Pete was born on June 1st, 1930 to William and Clirynda (Paiement) Valind in Gladstone, Mich.

In 1948, Pete graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes High School where he was known as ”Pistol Pete” for his shooting ability when playing basketball.

Pete married Dorothy Tollefson on July 10th, 1950 and celebrated 66 years with her. He often spoke fondly of dancing the night away with Dorothy at the Silver Dome in Marinette and of playing the coronet in a local band when he was young. Pete will always be remembered for his wide smile, snappy one liners, and pranks played on family members from the time he was a tiny boy.

Following high school, Pete enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country for 20 years, retiring as a Master Sergeant. He took great pride in his country and his service to it, but Pete’s greatest love was his family, who meant more than anything in the world to him. Some of his most cherished family memories included fishing in the river and on the ice, the annual deer hunt, many family camping trips and experiences in Alaska. Every year, Christmas morning was always a very special family event. Later in his retirement years, Pete enjoyed buying and selling antiques and collectables and was often in attendance at local auctions and flea markets.

Pete is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of Marinette;
three sons: Jeff (Bonnie) Valind of Keystone, Ind.;Terry (Jackie) Valind of Marinette, WI and Bruce (Laurie) Valind of Green Bay, WI;
one daughter, Vicky (Paul) Plas of Wausaukee, WI;
a sister, Elode Veiht of Marquette, MI;
eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Clirynda Valind; a brother-in-law, Jack Veiht and an infant grandson

A private family service will be held at Thielen Funeral Home in Marinette with Deacon Jerome Theteau officiating.
Burial will be held in Glenwood Memorial Gardens with the Military Twenty Year Club conducting honors.
