"Skippy" Kamakawiwo'ole was a founding member and the lead singer of the musical group the Makaha Sons of Ni’ihau. In the group with Skippy were his brother Israel "Iz " Kamakawiwo'ole, brother-in-law Louis “Moon” Kauakahi, and an evolving lineup of musicians over the years including his cousin Melvin Amina, Jerome Koko, and Sam Gray.

Skippy's ashes were spread offshore of Makua Beach, Oahu, Hawaii. His brother Israel “Iz” Kamakawiwo'ole's ashes were spread within 20 feet of the same site after Iz passed away in 1997.
