Author. A native of Morges, Switzerland, Fernán Caballero was the pseudonym of Cecilia Böhl de Faber. Caballero came to Spain with her parents in 1813, settling at Cadiz. In 1849 she published her first novel, "La Gaviota", which appeared originally in serial form in a newspaper. This book has been translated into several languages, the English version appearing in 1868 under the title of "The Sea Gull." Her works reflected the types and customs of the Spanish society of her time. her many works also include "Clemencia", "La Familia de Albareda", "Elía," "La Farisea" and "Callar en Vida."
