Vern was the son of George Thomas King and his wife, Clara Janet Perdue. His brothers were Ralph Waldo King and Horace Perdue King. His sisters were Alma King Kuehm and Mildred King Dare. He married Anna Beatrice Kinney in Fort Worth, Texas in 1920. They had two children, Vern Hesdon King, Jr., born 10/21/1921/died 6/6/1976, and Erva Clare King Fitzgerald, born 12/4/1929/died October 2, 1985.
