Former wife of Entertainer Chico Marx, who married Betty Karp on 22 March 1917. They first met when Betty was introduced to him by a girl with whom Chico had worked for the song publishers Shapiro, Bernstein; the Marx Bros were then playing in "Home Again" at the Palace. They arranged a date, but Betty stood him up. They did not meet again until the Marx Bros happened to be appearing near her home in Brooklyn, and Betty was boasting to a friend about how she knew Chico Marx. They visited the theatre, and Chico recognized her; a second date was arranged, and this time it was Chico's turn not to appear. Love flourished, and Betty found herself joining the "Home Again" company. Despite his frequent infidelities, and involvement with Lilian Roth's sister Ann, the marriage lasted until their divorce in 1940. The union had produced a daughter, Chico's only known child, Maxine (1918–2009). Betty later went on to married real estate broker Jerome Greene.
