Justin was the son of Isaac Williams and his wife Elisheba Kellogg.
He married Mary Sherman, daughter of Constant and Amelia Sherman before 1850. In that year he resided with his wife and son Sherman at the home of his widowed mother-in-law and ran the farm. The Sherman/Williams farm was about 100 acres where he grew potatoes, hay, oats, buckwheat and corn. He kept four horses and 6 milk cows as well as sheep and swine.
