Gerald G. “Jerry” Novotney, 68, of Streator passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 A.M. Monday at the St. Michael the Archangel Parish Church, Streator. Fr. Jacob Rose will officiate. Visitation will be from 2-5 P.M. Sunday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator. The rosary will be recited at 5:00 P.M. Burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Streator. Pallbearers will be his sons, Jim and Tim Novotney; Jeff and Dylan Mann, Derek Basina and Mark Holocker. Born May 19, 1945 in Streator he was the son of George and Mary Ann (Svetz) Novotney. He married Sharon Neighbor on November 4, 1967. He is also survived by daughters, Carol (Jeff) Mann of Yorkville, Cathy (Derek) Basina of Streator and Christine (Mark Holocker) Novotney of Streator; sons Tim Novotney of Streator and James (Tricia) Novotney of Streator; 10 grandchildren; sisters, Barbara Pouk of Streator, Mary Jane (James) Kelly of Streator and Sue Novotney of Streator. He is also survived by his ex-wife Sharon Walkey of Streator and a special friend, Sedona Baker of Streator. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, George “Cooch” Novotney and a sister in infancy, Elizabeth. Born and raised in Streator he attended St. Stephen’s Grade School and graduated from Streator High School. He also attended Devry Institute of Technology. He was an electrician in the I.B.E.W. Local 601 for over 40 years. He was a member of the former St. Stephen’s Church and currently belonged to St. Michael the Archangel Parish. He was also a member of the Streator Eagles Club and Sandy Ford Sportsmen’s Club. Jerry was an outdoorsman who loved fishing. His biggest pride and joy were his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church.
