Charles James Stevens of the Johnsons-Weitchpec area, died early this morning at a local hospital following a lengthy illness. He was a retired rancher and was born January 25, 1874.

Survivors are children, James Stevens, Johnsons; Mrs. Daraxa Peters of Hoopa and Mrs. Catherine Blake of Klamath; nieces and nephews, Mrs. Elizabeth Van Pelt, Eureka; Mrs. J. R. Moseley, Eureka; Charles Weber, Klamath; Mrs. Geneva Horn of Brookings and Hathaway Stevens of Hoopa. He was the husband of the last Rose Stevens who died three years ago.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the Open Bible Church at Johnsons. The Rev. Kenneth Brown will officiate. Interment will be in the Johnsons Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Pierce Mortuary.

Charles was the son of Lucy and Leonard Hathaway Stevens; brother of Ira, Laurie, Elizabeth, George and Grace Stevens.
