Roman Catholic Cardinal. Born in Marradi's via Celestino Bianchi in a palace later destroyed during the Second World War, Federico Cattani Amadori entered seminary in Modigliana, later moving to Rome where he furthered his studies at the Pontifical Roman Academy of San Tommaso d'Aquino and the Pontifical Roman Athenaeum of Sant'Apollinare, earning degrees in philosophy, theology and utroque iure in both canon and civil laws. Ordained priest in Modigliana October 5, 1879, he was soon appointed to the teaching staff of the local seminary, serving in the meantime as vicar general of his diocese between 1888 and 1906. Named auditor of His Holiness on February 9, 1909 and secretary of the cardinalitial commission deciding competence questions between Roman congregations in 1921, he went on to be appointed secretary of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signature on February 14, 1924 and apostolic protonotary in 1926. Pope Pius XI created him cardinal deacon in the consistory of December 16, 1935 with the deaconry of Santa Maria in Aquiro. Passing away in Rome, following the celebration of a funeral mass at the Santa Maria in Vallicella, his body was transported to his native Marradi and laid to rest inside the local parish church, underneath the main altar.
