MISS PARDEE'S DEATH.

Her Large Estate Will Now Go to Her Half-Brother, George C. Pardee.

OAKLAND. Cal., Dec. 16.— Miss Nellie Pardee, daughter of the late E. H. Pardee, died this morning after an illness of several weeks. The deceased was not 16 years of age, and was always a delicate child. The recent death of her father also helped to bring about the end. She was naturally a bright girl, and when illness overtook her was pursuing a special course at the Oakland High School. The death of Miss Nellie Pardee will cause a radical change in the disposition of the estate of her father, who died last September. One of the clauses of the will gave Nellie a certain amount of real and personal property, to which, as her heir, her mother would have succeeded. The estate, however, has not been distributed or the will admitted to probate. Under another clause of the will the property bequeathed to Nellie will go to Dr. George C. Pardee, as it is expressly declared that in the event of the death of Nellie Pardee, or the widow before the distribution of the estate, the property should go to the son. The valuable Pardee House on Telegraph avenue was left to Nellie with other property, and the widow will now have no right to anything but the Arcata House on San Pablo avenue and a homestead not to exceed a $10,000 in value, which is to be provided to her by thbe executors.

Eleanor PARDEE Park
Location: 851 Center Drive, at Channing Avenue
Description: 9.6 acre neighborhood park. Second largest neighborhood park in Palo Alto (largest is Bol). About half of the park is developed (huge expanse of level and mounding turf, playgrounds, picnic areas); about half undeveloped (community gardens)
Amenities: Two children’s playgrounds, picnic area with barbecues, multipurpose concrete bowl, jogging/walking path, community vegetable gardens, UC Cooperative Extension Master Gardener Demonstration Garden, Memorial Grove (on the Center Street side of the park)
History note: Eleanor Pardee died at age 15 of typhoid fever in 1896. Her mother, Emily Eliot Pardee Karns Dixon, deeded her 10-acre property, complete with house, to the city of Palo Alto in 1920. Emily also gifted the city with real estate in San Francisco, the income of which would go to converting the property into a park which she wanted named Eleanora Parque in memory of her daughter. In 1957 the southern half of the property was developed, in the early 1970s the run-down house was razed, and in the early 1980s most of the remaining five acres were turned into community gardens.
