Enlisted, 1898, in Troop 1, Squadron A Cavalry, New York City. He served during the Spanish American War era, being discharged in 1900.

Enlisted, January 23, 1901 in Battery A, Light Artillery, MANG, reorganized into Battery A, 1st Battalion, MVM. Discharged January 23, 1907 and enlisted, February 19, 1908, in Company I, 6th Infantry Regiment, MVM. Appointed 1st Lieutenant, Infantry, June 29, 1910, in the 5th Infantry, MVM, serving as Battalion Adjutant. Appointed Captain, Battalion Adjutant, 8th Infantry, MVM, resigned May 3, 1915. Appointed 2nd Lieutenant, Battalion Quartermaster, 5th Infantry, MVM, June 6, 1916 to January 13, 1917.

Mexican border, 1916, served on the border as an aid-de-camp to BG E. Leroy Sweetser.

World War 1, commissioned, Major, Field Artillery, May 23, 1917, and promoted Lieutenant Colonel, July 30, 1918. He served with the 83rd & commander of the 38th Field Artillery, at Camp Lewis, Washington. Discharged from the service, May 9, 1921 and was 5% disabled on date of discharge.
