George P. DeKay - Jan.18,1938 - Oct.26,2016, a lifetime resident of Middlesex Centre (formerly London Twp.) west of Hyde Park, at Victoria Hospital after a 10 month illness with lymphoma. He was predeceased by his parents, Percival DeKay (1958) and Edna Muriel (Gray) DeKay (1992). He was also predeceased by his brother, Eldon James DeKay (2015). He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Beverley Carling DeKay and Jane E. DeKay and by sister-in-law Grace A. DeKay. He was also uncle to nine nephews: David(Mary),Paul (Angela), Bill, Michael (Christine), John (Sarah), Tom (Andrea), Dan, Peter and Robert (Karen) and several great and great-great nieces and nephews. George graduated from Medway High School, Arva, the London Teacher's College and Western University. He began teaching in Thorold, ON and after one year he returned to London holding teaching positions at Mountsfield, Riverside, White Oaks, Northridge and Clara Benton Public Schools and retired in 1993. One of the highlights of his career was a posting in 1963 to teach three years in Germany on an RCAF base. He, among many others across Canada, applied and was chosen by the Federal Government for a loan of service from the London Board of Education. During those years he travelled extensively throughout Europe and in parts of Asia and northern Africa. George thoroughly enjoyed working with all his students and always considered them as extended family members. His motto was "firm - but fair". Over the years, George has held several interests and hobbies, among them music (piano) which he began when he was seven, genealogy and family history, participation on three different committees to help write the history of three different townships within Middlesex County, alpine skiing in earlier years, art, travel, gardening, cooking, a member of the Middlesex Centre Cemetery Board, and a volunteer at St Joseph's Hospital for over 20 years. He also enjoyed spending time at his cottage at Glendale Beach, Lambton Shores and in going down to the beach to watch the sunsets over Lake Huron. He always felt that keeping busy and productive was important. George wishes to express deep appreciation for the care and concern he received from Dr. K Howson-Jan and his team at Victoria Hospital, Oncology Clinic and Dr. A. Mawji and his team at Sunningdale Health Centre. Visitation on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James St. at Richmond where the funeral service will be conducted on Monday, October 31 at 11 am by The Rev. Michael DeKay. Interment will take place in the family plot in Woodland Cemetery.
