British Actor. He was a versatile character actor whose career spanned seven decades. Born Andreas Siegfried Sachs, he first appeared on film in an uncredited role in 1947's 'Hue and Cry'. Among other films he appeared in were 'Make Mine a Double' (1959), 'Nothing Barred' (1961), 'Hitler: The Last Ten Days' (1973), 'Robin Hood Junior' (1975), 'Revenge of the Pink Panther' (1978), 'History of the World: Part I' (1981), 'Consuming Passions' (1988), 'The Mystery of Edwin Drood' (1993), 'Nowhere in Africa' (2001) and 'Quartet' (2012). On television, although he had recurring roles on several series such as 'Six Proud Walkers', 'Mr. Toby's Christmas', 'Legend of Death', 'The History of Mr. Polly', 'There Comes a Time', 'Every Silver Lining', 'Big Bag' and 'Coronation Street', he will best be remembered for his role as Manuel the Spanish waiter in the 1970s sitcom 'Fawlty Towers'. Sachs died from complications of vascular dementia which was diagnosed in in 2012.
